Excerpt from Book
After weeks of running to different cities, constant stress, and seemingly being pulled in all directions, we finally arrived for the first day of orientation at the Christian law school my oldest daughter would be attending. However, once we arrived, the tension seemed only to increase, because it was not her first-choice law school, and, after weeks of running around, she decided she did not want to even walk in the door. As our argument escalated, it ended with me dropping the F-bomb on my daughter in the middle of the parking lot of this Christian university. In my mind, I saw her face change from the 22-year-old woman in front of me into the 8-year-old little girl I used to cherish. The next thought that ran through my mind was, How did a self-professed follower of Christ end up at this point?
At that moment, was I a Christian? Did I honestly believe everything that I had been taught in church during my life? One of the saddest parts is that, right at the very moment this happened, thinking there was no one else around but my daughter and I, I noticed that one of the professors had walked over to us to congratulate us on being accepted to their Christian university.
Whether you have been a Christian for years or are just now considering becoming one, this book is for you. Every thought and desire that makes up our flesh, the things we do and regret the next day, the things we push down and try not to think about, are a part of us. It does not matter how many times you have said you are sorry for them, or how many pastors have prayed over you for them. They are still there because you have to be able to hear God’s voice and partner with Him to finally have victory. I guarantee that, by the time you finish this book, you will be at rest, have a clear understanding of what it is to be at peace, and be able to walk with God as your intimate friend. Every verse in this book is written in the New American Standard Bible version, which I have found is the closest to the original Greek and Hebrew, unless it is otherwise noted.
Sincerely,
Ed Carpenter
